Hey guys! Wanna congratulate you with the first day of the winter. The Christmas are getting closer and here we already had some snow, about time, right? Do you get moody and emotional when the time of holidays is coming? I think it influences me more than I can expect. So I had these two polar different songs and I gave some opportunity the people decide what I should choose. Most thought that this Friday I need to make a tribute to this oldie.
I don't know how many of you know this greatest artist and how many of you are big fans, but I think everyone heard at least one of his songs and I will add one more to your list. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am talking about David Bowie, who left us not that long ago, but his art is always will be with us. And speaking about art, there is that song that touched deepest feelings of my soul. Space Oddity with so distant words, as it may seem, is so close and beautiful. The title is totally connected with the lyrics, whole this talk about space, ships, galaxy, astronaut and all, but the meaning behind that is much more complicated, in my opinion of course. I think everyone can imagine something connected directly to himself while listening to Space Oddity. However, David Bowie never said if there is the meaning of the song, but it was his first release in UK in 1969 and it got even more popular when days after the Apollo-11 landed on the Moon. Beautiful song with an amazing history. Even though song itself tells its own story about this astronaut Major Tom.
Speaking about music, I can't even concentrate what I should start with. First of all, when you going listen to it wear your headphones, both of them, because this is the thing. Record has that track split, when you hear two different things in one or another headphone. I cannot tell if this was done on purpose, but then it totally make sense. You can hear music- guitar, what makes the main beat, harmony, lead vocals, back vocals, percussions, but then sound effects are superimposed on this, what gives that feeling of floating in the space. I really love how it combination sounds, plus they added that countdown while David sings main lyrics, it may be distracting first time, but then you get used to it. Also the change of harmonies is so natural and fitting, that you know this should be there. I heard a lot of songs when I want to call the artist and say that I expected melody going up instead of staying at the same note. But this is not that case, everything is just perfect. Plus, I'd like to say big " thank you " to David Bowie for making that incredible break between Verse 2 and 3, I guess.... This moment is special, because it is very simple start for the instrumental part, just guitar and claps in the rhythm. This is the big turn on before whole spectrum of instrumental part.
David Bowie left us so many secrets, hidden places in this song that I can make out by bricks endlessly. But I think we don't need really do this. I prefer to enjoy this masterpiece, so I can remember how amazingly talented David Bowie IS, cause legends never die. It really can make you lost in the thoughts, in any version you will listen to it, because yes, there are great covers of this song too and leave links of them below. I hope you will ENJOY Space Oddity and maybe you will leave some comments what version of song you liked the most.
