I have been talking about this song for quite a long time, especially since the music video was released a couple weeks ago, and I am confused how had it happened that I still don't have a proper post to elevate it. But better late than never, right? And this single perfectly fits in this whole Valentine's day theme since I decided to make it here.
If you follow me on Instagram then most probably you know what I am talking about. Since no one wanted a hardcore/metal thing Coldplay by Mr. Hudson featuring Vic Mensa was next in line with indie-pop/alternative/indie-electro vibe to talk about plus some drama what is in it. If you don't know who Mr. Hudson is then SHAME ON YOU! *nah, kidding*, but seriously, this man makes a lot of great music and collaborates with a lot of musician we all know as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Duran Duran, DJ Snake and many many more. He has quite a long career for now and still surprises with every new masterpiece of his work.
Coldplay is one of those songs when you need to listen closely to lyrics to understand why artist chose this title, if you don't do that then it will make not much sense. And Mr. Hudson wrote this song that way that word Coldplay actually appears 3 times, not like in other songs when title makes chorus and vice versa. The idea is that listener in the whole story behind the lyrics can recognize or find glimpses of the band's Coldplay songs. I would use more professional word to explain it, but it will be boring, so I'd better give an example "Just to be honest, you was always fixing me. Now I don't know what else to do, but listen to "Fix You" on repeat", and everyone knows that "Fix you" is a classic Coldplay song. Also there are a lot of mentions of song "Yellow". This is amazing how you can put one song into the other and make so much sense of it, like it all fits perfectly. This why it is such an amazing song about broken heart, lost dreams, but this time from both sides. Not like in other songs, when narrative sings about how he got broken heart or how he broke someone's. This time there is a pain from both sides.
Have you ever had something that reminds you of a particular moment of your life or about particular person? Music is one of the most memorable things in relationship, maybe not for everyone, but it is. And this is what Mr. Hudson and Vic Mensa probably trying to tell us about, how Coldplay songs and band itself remind guys about that girl, who walked away. And hearing Coldplay song makes those feelings come back and makes you feel like you wanna die at the same time.
Mr. Hudson made Coldplay sound like a electro indie version of blues, with soft beat floating through whole song. Electric guitar in unison with piano and a background sound that makes illusion of a vinyl player, which actually make me wait till that moment when vinyl will be only turning without sound at the end of the song.
If you haven't heard Coldplay by Mr. Hudson yet, then go and do it now. Plus, now it has a beautiful music video on the background, so you can be amazed not only by music, but also the atmosphere which is shown. Go, listen it on YOUTUBE, Spotify or wherever you crazy people hang out and add it to your playlists, you won't regret it. ENJOY!
